Maggio uses a PDF-based workflow and aims to support the wide variety of PDF files and formats created by popular publishing platforms and page layout applications. The officially supported file formats in Maggio are PDF/X-1a:2001 and PDF/X-1a:2003. However, newer and higher-quality PDF formats, such as those including transparency, have been found to work in most practical cases.

The PDF format includes no limitations on the complexity of the page described, and as such it is possible to construct a PDF file that is too CPU and/or memory-intensive to operate on. As a rule of thumb, if a PDF file opens and performs normally in Adobe Acrobat on a desktop PC, it will also work in Maggio.

Since Maggio re-renders your content, the size of the PDF files you upload will not affect the download size of the publication.

Export options

If possible, export PDF directly from your page design application instead of printing to PDF or using Acrobat Distiller. The distilling process removes useful information from the PDF file and reduces quality of the output.

Since Maggio re-renders your content, the size of the PDF files you upload will not affect the download size of the publication. We recommend you compress your files as little as possible — bigger files are better, as long as you are able to reliably upload them to Maggio Web Author.
